Question of the week: Submitted by leah watkins on Friday, Jul 9

I am looking for a nutritional supplement to supplement my diet. I am lactose intolerant and experience severe stomach aches and vomiting. Due to an incredibly sensitive stomach I have developed many deficiencies in my diet and I am looking for a supplement to provide the calcium, proteins, and other vitamins that I am deficient. I live a very healthy lifestyle and do not eat junk food, or other high calorie high fat foods. My diet mainly consists of natural fruits, vegetables, raw nuts, and lots of eggs, fish and chicken. I do not eat carbs that do not come from processed breads and pastas Only whole grain breads. Do you have any suggestions?

Answer:

We don't have one perfect dietary supplement with the necessary protein, essential calcium and vitamins and other minerals you need being lactose intolerant, but here is what I am suggesting.

First is our Vit-Acell Anti-Oxidant which is a great tasting high potency multivitamin and mineral liquid providing 100% or more of the Daily Value of all 13 essential vitamins and over 60 major, trace and ultra minerals. As a liquid you should be able to tolerate this product well with your sensitive stomach. As for protein, I would suggest our Max Nutraceutical (MN) Soy Protein Powder. Soy protein is an excellent vegetable based protein providing all 9 of the essential amino acids.

Soy protein also provides calcium and contains isoflavones providing additional health benefits. Since you also consume fish, eggs, and chicken your protein requirements should be covered from these additional food sources. As a suggestion, you could make up a shake with one heaping scoop of Soy Protein Powder and add in a serving of the Vit-Acell Anti-Oxidant.

As for calcium, you are getting calcium from the raw nuts you are eating especially if you are eating almonds as they are a good source of calcium. Calcium would also be found in dark green leafy vegetables.

Additionally, I would recommend a calcium supplement like our MN Calcium Complex (MCHA). This is a special form of highly bioavailable calcium called microcrystalline hydroxyapatite (MCHA). The MN Calcium Complex (MCHA) comes in a capsule delivery so you could open the six capsules per serving and add the contents to your shake.

With these suggestions you should have all of your concerns covered.

QUESTION: Hello Dr, I have been reading the monthly Max Muscle Magazine and have a question. Lots of articles suggest that you take aprotein shake every 3-4 hours. Is this for a regular person ( like me ) I am of normal size( 195 Pounds + 183 cm ), just trying to lose a few pounds, i work out 5 days a week mixing in a combo of cardio and weights. If so which protein powder do you recommend. I must say taking protein drinks has helped me from snacking on junk and getting that full feeling. So do you suggest taking it every 3-4 hours. Thanks for your help. Josh

I've heard that Quadra Cuts Extreme + the Thyroid Support is a great combination.. I've also heard that using the Max De-Lite is also a great product and it has the thyroid support included and I've also heard that ThermXX is a great product as well. Which would be more beneficial for weight loss... Quadra Cuts Extreme + Thyroid Support, ThermXX, or Max De-Lite?

QUESTION: The short form of my question (for you to post): What nutritional supplements do you suggest to relieve tendonitis? The fully explanation of my concern: I have been having mild tendonitis in my right wrist for a little over two months from my strength training efforts. I do not believe that I am training excessively (1-2 hrs per week of resistance training, plus 1-2 hrs per week cardio) and weights are usually at a level for me to do 12-20 reps, and its been in a partly healed state sometimes slightly better or slightly worse from day to day. Also I have a nagging posterior shin splint (3 months) that could be tendon related as well and have been approved by my doctor to restart a limited running program. What do you suggest, nutrition-wise, to help healing and to improve my tendons' ability to handle a reasonable amount of exercise comfortably? Should I be taking Glucosamine/Chondroitin/MSM (and if so, which form) for this? I just started taking fish oil 3.6 grams per day of EPA/DHA for its anti-imflamatory characteris, but too soon to know if its helpful. (I am avoiding common over the counter pain killers such as Ibuproffen because of Chrohns disease.) I am a 42 year old male, not overweight and already at a medium to decent fitness level. Thanks

QUESTION: I'm looking to change my workout supplements from a creatine and protein to something a little stronger. Last time I was in max muscle they started me on the creatine and protein and said after that cycle maybe we would try something different, I think it was a pro-hormone or testosterone???. I’m interested in trying this but as a biomedical student I know the negatives of testosterone feedback, kidney, liver damage, and secondary effects. What can I try that will give me the boost without damaging my body.
